Patient Profile: Edith
When Edith moved back to Abilene two and a half months ago, she quickly found work performing custodial duties at a local school, but the end of the school year reintroduced her to unemployment.
“I have an interview today, this afternoon,” she said. “It’s for loading and unloading at a warehouse. If I get it, I could make up to $9 an hour. That’s more than I was making.”
Right now, Edith lives with her sister, who told Edith about the services that the Medical Care Mission offers. On a Wednesday, she was interviewed to become a new patient at the medical clinic. The next day, she was treated by a physician. That same afternoon, she applied for services at the dental clinic.
“I have some tooth and jaw pain,” she said. “If it weren’t for this clinic, I would end up right back at the Trauma Center at Hendrick, that’s for sure.”
