Returning the Favor

Once a client, medical mission’s new spiritual director helping her neighbors

The Rev. Amy Wilson remembers being a patient, more than once, at Abilene’s Presbyterian Medical Care Mission.

The Clyde High School graduate remembers going as a child to the mission, which offers low-cost medical and dental care to people who are unable to pay for health insurance, not old enough for Medicare, or ineligible for Medicaid. And once, after she graduated from Abilene Christian University — but before she had a job — she went to the mission to seek help for debilitating migraine headaches.

Wilson found comfort not only in the medical care she received but in the willingness of Dr. George Woodward, one of the physicians at the mission, to pray with her.

“I received the health care I really needed so that I could go to interviews and find a job,” she said. “But I also appreciated the fact that (Woodward) was praying for me and that he cared about me as a person — a whole person.” (read entire article)
